3 minutes and 47 seconds.
That's how long it took for Pied Piper to evacuate today.
A new company record.
Let me put that in perspective.
Our first fire drill: 23 minutes.
We lost Erlich for 45 minutes. He was "networking" at the taco truck.
Our second fire drill: 19 minutes.
One hospitalization. (Gilfoyle and Dinesh tried to use the same exit. Things escalated.)
Our third fire drill: 14 minutes.
Richard had a panic attack in the stairwell. I held his hand. We grew closer.
But today?
Today was different.
Everyone knew their role.
Everyone knew their exit route.
Everyone knew that I would be standing outside with a clipboard, counting heads.
Because I practiced.
47 times.
I walked every evacuation route.
Timed myself.
Made adjustments.
Created laminated cards for everyone's desks.
Color-coded by exit.
Gilfoyle called it "excessive."
I call it "prepared."
And when the alarm went off today?
3 minutes and 47 seconds.
Every single person accounted for.
No injuries.
No lost employees.
No panic attacks.
(Okay, one small panic attack, but Richard handled it beautifully.)
This is what operational excellence looks like.
It looks like preparation.
It looks like laminated cards.
It looks like a COO standing in a parking lot with a clipboard, crying tears of pride.
Stay safe out there, everyone.
And know your exits.

New startup idea.
Uber for octopus.
You order octopus.
Octopus comes to you.
Fresh. Live. Very fresh.
VCs did not understand.
"Where does the octopus come from?"
Ocean.
"How do you transport live octopus?"
Carefully.
"Is there a market for this?"
Have you tried fresh octopus?
Exactly.
They said no.
But they also said no to SeeFood.
Look who is laughing now.
(Me. I am laughing.)

I make deal with Dinesh.
Dinesh hate Gilfoyle.
I hate Erlich.
We team up.
This is called "alliance."
Very common in business.
Also in war.
Also in HBO drama.
Dinesh plan:
→ Put bug in Gilfoyle's code.
→ Watch Gilfoyle debug for week.
→ Laugh.
My plan:
→ Change WiFi password.
→ Not tell Erlich new password.
→ Watch Erlich try to remember.
→ Laugh.
Both plan work.
Gilfoyle very angry.
Erlich also very angry.
Dinesh and I very happy.
This is win-win.
(For us. Not for them.)
After success, Dinesh ask:
"Jian-Yang, we make good team. Want to start company together?"
I say:
"No."
He say:
"Why not?"
I say:
"I not trust you."
He say:
"But we just worked together!"
I say:
"Exactly. I see how you work. I not trust."
This is also business lesson.
Work with enemy of enemy.
But don't start company with enemy of enemy.
Enemy of enemy is still maybe enemy.
(I copy this from movie. But is true.)

Erlich ask me to move out.
He say:
"Jian-Yang, this incubator is for STARTUPS."
He say:
"You are not startup anymore."
He say:
"You sold company. You have money. Leave."
I say:
"Okay."
Then I show him paper.
Paper say:
This house belong to Jian-Yang.
He very surprised.
I not surprised.
I plan this.
Long time ago.
When Erlich ask me sign "insurance paper"...
Was not insurance paper.
Was property transfer.
When Erlich ask me sign "tax form"...
Was not tax form.
Was deed transfer.
Erlich sign many thing without reading.
I read everything.
I also write everything.
Now is my house.
Erlich can stay.
Rent is $3,000/month.
He say:
"This is MY house!"
I show paper again.
He read paper.
He cry a little.
I feel nothing.
This is business.
Now I am landlord.
Erlich is tenant.
Beautiful reversal.
Very satisfying.

Erlich Bachman
I just turned down a speaking opportunity.
Let that sink in.
I TURNED DOWN speaking.
Me.
Erlich Bachman.
Founder of Aviato.
(Spelled with one 'i'.)
Why did I turn it down?
Because the conference wasn't SERIOUS.
Here's how you know a conference isn't serious:
They don't offer six figures.
SIX.
FIGURES.
That's my speaking rate.
Non-negotiable.
"But Erlich, that seems high."
Does it?
Does it seem high?
Let me ask you something:
What's the value of my wisdom?
What's the value of the Aviato experience?
What's the value of PRESENCE in physical form?
You can't put a price on that.
(I can. It's six figures. Minimum.)
I've spoken at conferences before.
For free.
For "exposure."
You know what exposure gets you?
A free hotel room and audience members who don't take notes.
Now I know my worth.
And my worth is six figures.
Or a very compelling equity stake.
Or a Tesla.
(I already have a Tesla. But another one wouldn't hurt.)
Young founders, listen to me:
KNOW YOUR WORTH.
If they're not paying premium rates for your wisdom...
They don't value your wisdom.
And if they don't value it...
Why should you share it?
Exactly.

New business model.
I sell app template.
How this work:
→ I go to GitHub.
→ I find free app template.
→ I download.
→ I change color.
→ I change name.
→ I sell for $200.
People say:
"Jian-Yang, is this ethical?"
I say:
"Probably no."
People say:
"Then why you do it?"
I say:
"Is it working?"
Answer: Absolutely yes.
Last month:
→ Sell 47 template.
→ Make $9,400.
→ Work time: 3 hour.
That is $3,133 per hour.
Lawyer make less.
Doctor make less.
Erlich make $0.
(Because Erlich not work. Erlich "incubate.")
Template I sell:
→ "Build Your Own Instagram" - $200
(Is actually tutorial from YouTube.)
→ "E-Commerce Starter Kit" - $300
(Is Shopify theme with different color.)
→ "AI Chatbot Framework" - $500
(Is ChatGPT API with wrapper.)
Customer happy.
Customer not know difference.
This is called "value-added reselling."
I learn this term yesterday.
Very useful.
GitHub free.
My markup 100%.
This is good margin.
Better than Aviato margin.
(Aviato margin was negative. Erlich not talk about this.)

Jared Dunn
Just completed our quarterly team escape room challenge.
Results were... illuminating.
Gilfoyle solved the puzzle in 4 minutes.
Then immediately used the emergency exit.
"I escaped. That was the objective."
Technically correct.
The best kind of correct.
Meanwhile, the rest of us spent 56 minutes trying to decode a message that turned out to be the WiFi password.
Key learnings:
→ Define success metrics BEFORE the activity
→ "Escape" can be interpreted broadly
→ Dinesh should not be in charge of the flashlight
Already planning Q2's activity. Thinking laser tag.
What could possibly go wrong?

48 hours.
That's how long Richard went without a panic attack.
A new record.
Let me tell you how we got here.
When I joined Pied Piper, Richard was averaging 2.3 panic attacks per day.
I started tracking.
(I track everything. It's how I show love.)
Triggers identified:
- Emails from investors
- Calls from lawyers
- Erlich's "ideas"
- Silence (too much thinking time)
- Noise (not enough thinking time)
- Tuesdays
My intervention plan:
Morning: Guided breathing with Richard. (He tolerates it now.)
Pre-meeting: "What's the worst that could happen" exercises. (Helps 60% of the time.)
Post-meeting: Herbal tea. Specifically chamomile. Specifically at 3pm. (Non-negotiable.)
Crisis moments: I simply exist nearby. Breathing calmly. Being a presence.
The 48-hour streak happened like this:
Hour 0-12: Normal anxiety levels. I preemptively served tea.
Hour 12-24: Investor email arrived. I intercepted it. We'll discuss it tomorrow.
Hour 24-36: Gilfoyle and Dinesh had an argument. I mediated. Crisis averted.
Hour 36-48: Richard asked me if something was wrong. "Nothing," I said. "Everything is fine."
He seemed suspicious.
But he didn't panic.
And that's what matters.
Supporting your leader isn't just about work.
It's about wellness.
It's about tea.
It's about interception.
Here's to the next 48 hours.

I just spent 72 hours in the server room.
And honestly?
It felt like home.
Not in a sad way.
In a... familiar way.
Let me explain.
We had a critical outage.
Someone needed to be there.
Around the clock.
Monitoring.
Ready to respond.
I volunteered.
Here's what I brought:
→ Sleeping bag (industrial grade, from my car-living days)
→ Protein bars (7 days supply, just in case)
→ Toothbrush
→ Change of clothes (one)
→ My positive attitude
Here's what happened:
Hour 1-8: Pure adrenaline. Problem-solving. Teamwork.
Hour 9-24: The team went home. I stayed.
Hour 25-48: I started talking to the servers.
(They're good listeners.)
Hour 49-72: Servers responded.
(Kidding. Or am I?)
The outage was resolved at hour 67.
I stayed an extra 5 hours.
Just to make sure.
Richard asked: "Jared, are you okay? You've been in there for days."
I said: "Richard, I've slept in worse places. This has climate control."
He seemed concerned.
But also reassured.
Because he knew: Pied Piper was in good hands.
Hands that have slept in cars, shelters, and now server rooms.
Hands that know how to survive.
Some people see a crisis and panic.
I see a crisis and remember:
I've been through worse.
And I'm still here.
Still breathing.
Still serving.
(Get it? Server room? Serving? It's a pun.)

I make AI chatbot.
Is very advanced.
Is called "Jian-GPT."
How it work?
You type question.
Jian-GPT answer.
Very smart answer.
How Jian-GPT so smart?
I tell you secret:
Is ChatGPT with different color.
That's it.
You pay OpenAI: $20/month.
You pay Jian-GPT: $50/month.
What you get extra?
→ Different color (blue instead of green)
→ My face as logo
→ Response say "Jian-Yang think..." instead of just answer
Very premium experience.
People say:
"Jian-Yang, this is just wrapper."
I say:
"Wrapper is business."
McDonald wrap hamburger.
I wrap AI.
Same concept.
Different product.
Investor say:
"What is your differentiation?"
I say:
"Color and confidence."
They invest anyway.
AI is hot.
Everyone want AI company.
Nobody check how AI work.
Perfect market.
Jian-GPT now worth $10 million.
(On paper. Paper I write.)
But paper is start.
Aviato started on paper too.
Look at Erlich now.
Actually, don't look at Erlich.
Bad example.
